A day after the 2021 AP Human Geography reading ended, I solicited advice from bleary-eyed readers about their observations. I was looking for feedback on where and how a script applied directly to a course description skill. I wanted to know how a particular skill prompt requested a particular path for students to take, and instead they face planted.
So, I collected everyone’s responses and tied them back to the CED skills. Thank you to everyone who contributed your ideas, you certainly help fill my teaching potholes and hopefully this helps others navigate the minefield as well.
I took screenshots of each question from the released prompts and placed them where I believe they fit in the CED, alongside reader’s commentary. This way teachers can see examples of the types of questions that might be asked for each skill.
Full disclosure: I only read one question the entire reading and it is one that is published to the web. Because there were later testing dates, there are other questions that were not released to the public, and those I do not have available as screenshots. So while you might see commentary from a reader about a particular FRQ CED skill, it most likely came from a question that was not released to the public.
While there are 26 CED skills and 31 pages worth of commentary and example prompts, I would beg you NOT to use this as a slideshow in your classroom. This is best for teacher reference, or if you are reviewing best practice for a particular FRQ with your class. This is meant to be a hyperlinked menu, not used as a powerpoint.
Questions? Concerns? Comments? Criticisms?
All welcomed, just be nice.
